Kia ora and Greetings from The Maori Directory Whanau.

We are the whanau behind www.maori-in-oz.com (MIO est 2004), the only portal of its kind outside of Aotearoa (NZ). Raised in Mangere East, South Auckland where many of our whanau still reside today. Descendants of Ngati Porou and Samoan/German and Ngati Maniapoto, Ngati Paoa and German.

We moved to the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia in late 1997 and building websites began which ultimately lead to the creation of MIO as a means for Maori to connect and tautoko one another as well as maintaining a connection with our whanau and our homeland.

Originally MIO held the only directory of Maori in Australia which enabled Maori to keep in contact with a fast burgeoning Kapahaka, Community and Business Directory. It quickly called for an overhaul! In the meantime no Maori Directory in Aotearoa (NZ) was providing a sufficient, up to date resource in the one area, directories were spread out everywhere as individuals, a directory for businesses (with thousands missing out!), another directory for government, another for certain community groups, health sectors and so forth, but not one large directory that combined every sector Maori are in. It was high time changes were made and after 2 years of solidly researching, compiling a business plan and 9 months of building the portal, The Maori Directory (TMD) was launched in September of 2007.

It is high time Maori made a significant mark on the Internet Highway for ourselves independent of the giants who have dominated for a decade!  TMD is without question, the largest most up to date Directory ever built by Maori, for Maori and all to access. The most comprehensive listings available on the internet offering both Free and Paid Listings to allow Maori in all sectors to be found in the one portal - The Maori Directory.
